Ducati Makes Special Visit To Camp

Ducati makes a visit to a camp for children with diabetes.
July 19, 2007

Tooele, UT - On a Saturday morning in June, Danny Carson of Ducati North America, Duc Truck pilot Mike Johnson and fellow Ducatista Bobby Riedell mounted three Ducatis and rode to a Youth Camp 3 miles outside of Tooele, Utah run by the Foundation for Children and Youth with Diabetes.

The Foundation for Children and Youth with Diabetes is a non-profit organization that runs the Camp for children with diabetes. Staffed by those most knowledgeable about learning to live with diabetes and funded through gracious donations and countless hours of volunteer time, the Camp is a haven for children ages 7 to 17. The camp offers activities from archery, swimming, field games, and crafts to education about how to manage their disease and lead a normal life.

While in Utah for the Miller round of the AMA races in late June, Danny Carson was contacted by Cindy Kirk of the Foundation. "She asked if we could possibly bring a couple of bikes up to the camp for the kids to see," said Carson, "and the answer was clearly yes. About 90% of the staff also have diabetes, so they are helping the kids to cope and we wanted to help any way we could." The three Ducati riders rode their bikes—a Monster S4R S Testastretta, Multistrada 1100 S and a 999s Team USA—into the Camp for the children to experience. "We spent about 45 minutes answering questions and talking about the bikes," Carson recounted, "we gave the kids lanyards and posters and made them feel like part of the Ducati team. It was a real hit with the kids and we had a great time doing it.
